Behind the lens: PHOTOGRAPHY at The SAND Project

SAND trainee on the photography pathway behind the lens on a shoot in Worthing.

Photography is a highly creative pathway in which the SAND trainees explore the world around them in new and exciting ways. With use of a professional camera, the trainees hone their skills in the technical aspects of photography such as aperture, shutter speed, iSO and composition.

Location & Inspiration

The Trainees discuss photography techniques and equipment during a SAND pathway session.

The sessions are a combination of real world photography and theoretical practical work. We cover as many genres as possible, with each trainee being encouraged to develop their own interests and style , making the most of the wonderful locations that West Sussex has to offer, wether that be countryside, towns and cities or the beautiful beaches that we are fortunate enough to have right on our doorstep.

Standing out from the crowd

With the technology of mobile phone cameras improving almost daily, Trainees are encouraged to make the most of this readily accessible, ultra convenient way of capturing the world around them; indeed, The SAND Project’s very first photography exhibition in summer 2023 was shot largely with mobile phones, the results in which were incredibly breathtaking.

Showcasing beautiful and thoughtfully framed spaces

Our bi-annual photography exhibitions at SAND on Thorn Road in Worthing enable our trainees to develop their skills and confidence to not only exhibit in local art galleries but also sell their wonderful images which will be proudly presented in the SAND Store soon (watch this space!).
